Our initial concerns about how Joe would cope - remaining in Myanmar for another three days over the New Year period on his own - were soon eliminated when we read the tales in his blog.
We flew back to Bangkok and had 2 luxury nights on the 19th floor of Chatrium Riverside with a stunning view of the Chao Praya river (and a building site - probably due to our negotiated 'price match' ) and well placed for the New Year's Eve firework displays. Apart from a shopping spree to get food and wine to 'see-in' 2015 we stayed put in the hotel and enjoyed the top floor cocktail lounge and 6th floor infinity pool.
One highlight of our New Year's Eve feast was finding a kit for making Meang Kham which consists of a wild pepper leaf in which you spread some coconut sugar then your choice of chopped lime, nuts, slices of roasted coconut, chilli, dried shrimps and ginger. Each bite produces an explosion of flavour, each wrap with a slightly different sensation. Perfection!
